PRIMO

We have two activities coming up for PRIMO in celebration of Italian American Heritage Month.

1.) We will have a brand-new edition of PRIMO coming out in October!

2.) We will once again host PRIMO’s 30-day salute to Italian horror cinema in October.

For the past five years, we have combined the Halloween theme with Italian heritage in October. I have a book published titled “Italian Horror Cinema: The Most Influential Horror Films from Italy.” Every day we post an item from the book on our website to espouse the connection between Italy and horror films and the genres of dark fiction, macabre, Gothic, etc…

Many young adults enjoy horror films; especially those that are out of the mainstream. This theme has helped to inspire young people, who are ambivalent about their heritage. For instance, in addition to articles on Italian horror films, we also cover Dante’s “Inferno” and detail many Renaissance paintings to depict various macabre scenes of religious significance. We link our articles to many, many different social media groups to really inspire them. I was hoping to organize a short film festival this year of Italian horror films in Washington, D.C.; but Covid-19 has delayed its fruition.
